Paula DeSimone

About the Artist

“Nature and landscape are my theme and the sources of inspiration I draw from. My paintings and monotypes both reflect an expressive approach to painting.  The initial brush mark initiates the creative process and paves the way for artistic expression and a flow of energy.  Broad strokes, paint smears, gestural marks describe a visual language that enables me to translate “in the moment” and evoke an emotional and immediate response to my concept. Monotype allows me to apply my painting, color and design experience while exploring new methods of creative problem solving.  In my monotypes, the viewer explores through a visual journey, layers of transparent and textural effects while the underlying theme is unfolded. Striking a balance between intuitiveness and an intellectual response to the printmaking process is of itself a work in progress. I continue to be courted by the monotype process and look forward to each printmaking session as a new experience with elements of surprise.”
